Becca Trent lived her childhood next to a cruel woman—her mom—who lived to torment and neglect her. During her high school years, her mother married; bringing home not only a new husband, but a step sister her same age. The latter took over her Mom’s role—making Becca’s life miserable. Including stealing Ian—Becca’s best friend and boyfriend—Lisa treated her worse than her mother had for the previous fifteen years. A couple of years later, things ended up in tragedy.
Becca buried that part of her life in the deep corners of her psyche, but that only work during the days when the nightmares didn’t come back to haunt her. Her best friend, Dan gives her that family love she always lacked. Everything was close to perfect, until everything and everyone from her past came back. Now, she’s trying to figure out how to survive and keep that bond which seems now to be held together by a thread.
Note: This is the first part of a two book novel.
IT Company executive turns writer – Guest Post by Author Claudia Burgoa
My family is a bunch of fun practical geeks who find reading enticing, educating and entertaining. I loved books, and to make up stories because that took me away from my mundane, all day-soap-opera-induced-drama life. However, writing isn’t a serious career according to said family. Each one of them holds either a business major or some scientific over the top degree. The idea of one of their own doing something as writing didn’t sound practical and as one of the good children, I follow their lead. I wasn’t very good at fighting the system, their system.
Based on that and what I like, I made my choice… I love math, however, wanting to use my creativity went for the business major. The idea of becoming a big shot advertising person back then, but as time progressed it wasn’t as appealing. After years of working for different companies—financial institutions, construction company, plasticware business, mortgage and others—I ended working where I am at. The flexible hours and location give me that wiggle time to realize that I could do more than one thing. My love for reading didn’t fade with my career choice, or the ever changing life that throws different curves often; if not daily. Six years ago, the love for writing rekindle and I began to doodle and realize that I could now let those stories flow.
I really loved this book and the characters. I could have done without one scene, but I also understand its necessity and it was more a memory then actually taking place which somehow did make a difference. Rebecca, Dan, Ty are all amazing characters and are all somehow damaged from their childhoods and finding out the who, how, what, where and why is all consuming, I couldn’t put the book down. Until the very end then I wanted to smash my kindle…because….Uh no spoilers, sorry if you want to know you have to read the book. Thank god there is a follow up book coming and I can’t wait for it, I’m suspecting when it releases I will drop everything and read it the second it’s in my hands.
